Types of MPF schemes

An MPF scheme is a defined, mandatory contribution scheme in which employers, employees and self-employed persons make contributions.

In general, there are two types of MPF schemes:

Master Trust Scheme

Master Trust Scheme

  • This scheme is open to all employers.
  • Contributions from various employers and scheme members are pooled together for administration and investment so as to benefit from economies of scale.
  • This scheme is suitable for SMEs ad self-employed persons.

Industry Schemes

Industry Schemes

  • This scheme is specially designed for industries with high labour mobility, such as the construction and catering industries.
  • Casual employees need not transfer their scheme when switching jobs in the same industry.
  • This scheme avoids the complications of MPF asset transfers when switching jobs.
